tent stakes, raise the canvas, unload the animals was a spectacle itself. The sheer logistics of the move are mind
boggling, even today. Each show brought with it new and exciting sights and sounds that you had never seen or heard.
THAT excitement is what I hope to capture in my circus paintings. I wish to keep this history alive for future generations.
THAT excitement is what I hope to capture in my circus paintings. I wish to keep this history alive for future generations.

Just imagine what it must have been like....
Your hometown, transformed overnight. A new city erected on a piece of open land. Why, just one of the canvas
structures is larger than a football field! Colorful wagons, hundreds of horses and up to a thousand people calling your
town home for a day. Exotic animals of all shapes and sizes - Zebras, polar bears, elephants, tropical birds, giraffes,
tigers, lions, seals, camels and even a hippopotamus or two! Perhaps you had been lucky enough to see a photograph
or drawing of one of these creatures, but to SEE them in YOUR town?! Simply incredible. Millions flocked to the circus to
catch a glimpse of the animals and performers...the likes of which they had never seen before. Schools, government
offices, banks, and business closed their doors on Circus day.  I cannot even imagine in this day and age WHAT could
possibly get US that excited?? A clone of King Tut? George Washington? A real live Alien???...the answer - there is
nothing. We have pretty much seen it all. But in the late 1800's and into the new century the CIRCUS WAS THAT
EXCITING!

My interest in the circus is about HISTORY and my impression of it.  And with history you take the good with the bad, and
learn from it.

The circus was a HUGE part of  early America, and it says as much about our country as baseball and apple pie.

SO....THAT BEING SAID....
Grab your crackerjacks and lemonade -
The show is about to begin!!

Greg and Linda are new partners in art and life. Their
mutual love of color, and watercolor in particular,
brought them together in 2006. While their styles of
watercolor vary greatly at times, they learn from each
other and feed each other creatively. Linda finds her
comfort in loose and watery effects, while Greg thrives
on detail. At many times they are taking cues from
each other, and finding new ways to portray their
subjects.
Watercolor is a medium they find to be fascinating and
sometimes alive in it's own spirit. Uncontrollable at
times, and calm and co-operative at others, it is both a
challenge and a joy.
Their watercolor galleries are filled with unique
watercolor paintings, depicting historic scenes, circus
paintings, Victorian homes and porches, cats and dogs,
floral paintings, commissioned artwork, vintage doors,
portraits and more.

Both artists have recently become  involved with
producing circus artwork (with the assistance of the
Circus World Museum in Baraboo, WI,) to benefit the
preservation of this colorful history. Greg and Linda
'discovered' Circus World in Baraboo during the
summer of 2007. What they found was
not a dusty old
museum, but a wonderful array of displays, a beautiful
main building, Ringling outbuildings, incredibly
restored circus wagons, LIVE CIRCUS
PERFORMANCES, and so much more!! All this is on
the site of the original winter headquarters of the
Ringling Brothers. The one ring circus show on site is a
spectacle in itself. Their excitement grew as they
delved further into circus history, and watched the live
circus performances. They discovered a passion for
painting circus themed artworks, and because of the
generosity of Circus World, they were allowed to use
many of the archived prints and posters as references.
As a way of thanking Circus World, and a way to give
something back, Greg and Linda donate a portion of all
circus related artwork sales back to Circus World. They
have a page dedicated for
Circus Themed Art, and that
is where you will find the
Circus World  information
and links.
